Understanding Attendance Allowance

Attendance Allowance is a tax-free benefit for people over State Pension age of 67, who need help with personal care or supervision, and who have had that need for 6 months or longer. Attendance Allowance is not means-tested. There are two weekly rates – £73.90 or £110.40 – depending on the level of help you need.

You do not qualify for Attendance Allowance if you are already receiving PIP, as they are mutually exclusive benefits and you can only receive one.

STEP 3

Outcome

The DWP will write to you with the outcome. Awards are usually backdated to the date you requested the form, as long as it’s returned within 6 weeks. A decision typically takes around 8–10 weeks.

STEP 4

No Award – No Fee

Nothing is payable until you receive written confirmation of your award from DWP and your first payment.

Our fees - Clear and simple

Our service is completely risk-free. You only pay when your claim is approved. Your first Attendance Allowance payment is usually backdated, which means it will usually more than cover our fee.

Our fixed fee is £348 (£290 plus VAT).

During our home visit, we agree everything upfront. This covers the process, our fee and payment terms, all in a simple two-page document.

What if I have savings?

Attendance Allowance is not means teasted, so it doesn't matter if you have savings or other income. You can still apply.

Will it affect my pension?

Attendance Allowance does not affect your State or Private pensions – and it is tax free.

What can I spend my AA on?

Attendance Allowance does not need to be spent on care – you can spend your allowance however you like. It is intended to help improve your quality of life and independence.

When is the fee payable?

After your award email or letter has arrived, we will send you an invoice. Your first Attendance Allowance payment is often backdated, which means it will usually more than cover our fee.

What if my claim is refused?

If your claim is refused, we can handle an appeal.

Mandatory reconsideration is free.

If an award is made following an appeal, then the standard success fee of £290 plus VAT (£348) applies at that point.
